Huginn & Muninn – textile and coat hanger
The Norse God, Odin, kept himself informed about the affairs of the nine worlds with two faithful ravens, Huginn (Thought) and Munnin (Memory). He sends them out at dawn to gather information and return in the evening. They perch on the God’s shoulders and whisper every scrap of news which they saw or heard into His ears.
Thought and Memory fly each day
over the spacious earth.
I fear for Thought, that he come not back,
yet more anxious am I for Memory. From the poem Grimnismal
Open Aviary is an exhibition of contemporary art which responds to the theme of flight, as part of the Island Projects at the Isle of Sheppey.
