Handkerchiefs could trigger significant personal memories through the sense of touch and smell. It signifies the presence as well as the absence of someone special. It also speaks of a time in the past, when these special items are used for different occasions and treasured for special purposes.
This handkerchief started a long and still ongoing journey of seeking and collecting more and more his and her handkerchiefs. In collecting and re-collecting, I re-imagine the identity of the person and re-create the stories behind that life. In re-making, I hope to restore the memory and redeem the value of these beautiful objects.
To relate appropriately to the delicacy and the sensitivity of the issues I am engaging in, the intimacy of the drawings is expressed through the fragility of paper and the simplicity of the drawing materials.
